I have just been invited to join Pownce, the new social networking phenomenon which is beginning to replace Twitter. I absolutely love it! When I first discovered Twitter I thought that it was a good idea, but this just takes it to the extreme. Instead of just being able to send messages, like Twitter, you can send files, events and links. Pownce also has it's very own desktop application created for Adobe's brand new Integrated Runtime (AIR) platform.
Pownce is very similar to Twitter but has some features that improve the overall concept.
There is currently no public timeline though, so that can be a downfall because your messages can only be viewed by people who know your Pownce URL (so that would be your friends and anyone you have advertised it to).
You can reply to individual messages to add your own views and comments on a message someone else has written, which makes it a little like having your own blog whereby you can post messages, links and events to your profile as if it were a blog. You can also use it as a messaging feature by sending private messages to a friend.
The website has a sleek design integrating the FamFamFam silk images and some beautiful background illustrations by artists at iStockphoto making it simple, clean and easy-to-use. The desktop application is also very nice, again using the FamFamFam silk images and colours that compliment each other, it makes it that little bit nicer to use than Twitter.
Anyway, I currently have 10 invitations to give away to anyone who wants them, so post a comment here and I will guarantee the first 10 commenters an invite, limited to one per person. Anyway, visit my Pownce profile here: http://www.pownce.com/bull3t/.

I'm not sure if it's a Twitter vs. Pownce proposition. Maybe, both can serve different roles. For me, Twitter is where I have made real human connections. Pownce is highly functional, I just haven't fallen in love with it yet.

Hey, Jim. I see what you mean, they both have good points and bad points so should be used together. I haven't used Twitter much since today and I don't really know why. When I first found Twitter I used it pretty often, but the novelty wears off after a few weeks and I think the same will happen to Pownce. I suppose you already have been invited to Pownce then?

Yeah, I alsothink that twitter will not be replaced by Pownce. There are probably tons of users who are satisfied with Twitter, and tons of others who are more satisfied with Pownce.

Thank you for the comment you left earlier today on my post on 07/07/07 07:07:07!
If you've still got some Pownce invitations going, I'd be thrilled if you could please send one my way.
I am not sure Pownce it could replace Twitter (unless it is as simple as Twitter) but I'd be personally keen to switch (Twitter's novelty has started to wear off for me, and I'm impressed by Pownce's functionalities).

I think that Pownce is simple and easy to use, so it could replace Twitter if many of the Twitter features were integrated into Pownce.

I may be able to get some more invites to help a few more people out, but not sure whether many people want them. These are going slightly slowly. Anyway, sent one to OpenDictator!

I've been reading up on this and I would like to try it. Especially if it has the ease and convience of twitter but offers more features like…well something that offers my features. Like a special edition…
In short…I'd like an invite…

Hi , I saw that pownce is using the AIR (runtime env of adobe ) , and its cool its only 6-7mb, and the apps that i checked so far were made/compiled with AIR are not so big in size some are less than 1mb , what is the size in mb of the pownce client ?? , I hope that Adobe could make a release for linux too , that would be great …. if you have an invitation left please I will really appreciate ..
Regards …

Yeah, AIR is very cool and I believe Pownce is just under half a megabyte (482297 bytes), which is brilliant!

@Myron Tay:
It's true; Pownce is definitely not going to be replacing Twitter. Pownce died on December 15, 2008 and everything they had was sold to Six Apart. However, there are still many Twitter-like services available, such as Plurk and Jaiku. I don't really think anything can match up to Twitter though.
